In Nevada, child care licensing is a state job. Whether the provider is in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas or unincorporated Clark County, its license comes from the Child Care Licensing program of the Nevada Division of Social Services. The state's licensee search shows each facility's inspection information and the complaints and investigations tied to it, so it's the first place to look before a tour.
A license is required to care for more than four children who aren't related to the caregiver or for whom the caregiver is paid. Care by friends, family and neighbors for up to four children is an informal arrangement with no state license behind it.
If cost is the barrier, Nevada's Child Care and Development Program helps families with household incomes at or below 41% of the state median pay a provider, with a flat monthly copayment of $0 or $90. For 3- and 4-year-olds, CCSD Pre-K, Nevada Ready! State Pre-K and Head Start are publicly funded options with their own age and income rules.
